Is There A Mesothelioma Cure?

Let's see if we can settle whether or not there is a mesothelioma cure. In this day and age it can seem absurd that there are no cures for cancer let alone a mesothelioma cure. Mesothelioma is a cancer, and as such, there is no true "cure" for it yet. However, if the disease is caught early, assorted treatment options can not only extend a patient's life, but also their potential of life. While the original survival rate for those diagnosed with mesothelioma is often set at eight to 12 months, more recently, a five year survival rate of some has increased substantially. This goes to show that treatment and drugs to battle mesothelioma cancer has increased and improved dramatically in the last few years. This may be due to the fact that more is known about mesothelioma cancer now than it ever was before.

However, there is still much to be understood about this aggressive disease. While the coarse diagnosis for mesothelioma is that it is positively a form of cancer, not all researchers are in agreement. So as of yet there are no mesothelioma cure that has been developed; any way there are things that population can do to ease any symptoms that they have. Your physician or health professional will be able to help ease the symptoms and make the last few years or months a lot easier.

Mesothelioma

Some population think that mesothelioma cancer is a viral infection that has turned malignant. Thus, their diagnosis is that the asbestos fibers which cause the disease could possibly embark on an already present coarse virus infection, and ultimately cause a range of clinical conditions for the patient. While many of these clinical conditions may appear to not be harmful, in benign pleural effusions researchers don't typically find what is known as a pleural cavity that is then full of asbestos needles. Consequently, researchers whether aren't culturing for the right agent, or they need more time to show the way broader explore about the true nature of Mesothelioma.

Finally, here are some known healing facts that are not particularly coarse about Mesothelioma cancer:

o It is very rare for the Serosal membranes to be malignant other than with Mesothelioma cancer.

o It is not asbestos dependent.

o It is not smoking related.

o It only positively happens when there is evidence of pleurisy.

o The latency period is longer than any other known malignancy.

While these facts comprise specific, medical, terminology which some may be unfamiliar with, it is leading to present the terminology as it known; scientifically. While the personal diagnosis, or that of a loved one, with mesothelioma can already seem like a devastating occurrence, it is leading for population to educate themselves more specifically about such terms. This will support both the patient, and their loved ones, to good understand the disease they are battling, and to more effectively quote with their physicians with regard to mesothelioma.

Is Remission from Mesothelioma Possible?

Mesothelioma, even after decades of medical research, is one of the most aggressive and least treatable of all forms of cancer.

Nonetheless, a very tiny division of patients go into remission from mesothelioma, and I can record two cases, one anecdotal (but I have seen the films myself), and the other from the medical literature.

Mesothelioma

Dr. Demetrio Sodi-Pallares, who lived from 1913 to 2003, was in his time carefully the premier electrocardiologist in the world. A professor at Ucla, Michigan, and Baylor medical schools, he was the author of twelve books and over 300 papers in the medical journals.

In the 1960's Dr. Sodi, as he beloved to be called, was on faculty at Baylor medical College with the pioneer of bypass surgery, Dr. Michael DeBakey. Competitive with DeBakey, Sodi perfected an alternative procedure, a "bypass to bypass" requiring no surgical operation and minimal medication.

While bypass surgical operation is something everyone knows about all over the world, Dr. Sodi's glucose-insulin-potassium (Gik) infusion policy was only recognized as valid by the American Heart relationship 53 years after he developed it, although it is used in 11 countries today. Dr. Sodi, of course, was encouraged to return to his native Mexico City at the age of 65. Dr. DeBakey is still on faculty and will turn 100 on September 7, 2008.

Back in Mexico, Dr. Sodi (to his wife's consternation) built a medical office over his swimming pool and flower gardens and opened his doors to hopeless patients who had no money. One of his patients had mesothelioma.

Dr. Sodi had learned more or less by emergency that successfully treating heart disease sometimes brings about a remission from cancer. In the 1980's, a construction laborer with mesothelioma who was getting no relief from medicine at the collective hospital came in, after ordering labs and x-ray, Dr. Sodi put him on a three-tier program:

Avoid all added salt and foods preserved with salt.

Eat 10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.

And make sure you take a nap for 3 hours 5 days a week,

The nap occurring on a pulsating magnetic mattress of the kind regularly ready for back pain medicine today.

That's not the sort of regimen that's going to get a medical school to keep you on faculty after you reach age 65. It was exactly that simple. Dr. Sodi's fee? Zero.

I was a house guest of Dr. Sodi's some 15 years later. He showed me the films of the shrinking and then disappearing pleural effusions, and then introduced me to this and any other patients. What was striking about this man was, other than that he could function in the polluted environment of Mexico City, was that he had unusually rosy skin. That may or may not have anything to do with remission, but it was memorably.

So what should I expect man reading this post to take away from my story?

Well, it's not the only story of remission out there. Others are scientifically documented.

While I had great confidence in Dr. Sodi's integrity, and still do, a case study conducted in a free clinic built over an abandoned swimming pool in a doctor's front yard de facto doesn't rise to the level of scientific proof.

But it is consistent with some looking about the stoppage of mesothelioma I'll be writing about in a later post. If 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day is good, by the way, that doesn't mean 20 would be better. There apparently is an upper limit to the usefulness of diet in preventing and maybe supporting mesothelioma, as I'll discuss in a later post.

If that were all the proof of remission to be found, I wouldn't post it. But the fact is, a carefully documented remission from mesothelioma has been documented in the medical literature.

Dr. Roger K. A. Allen of the Wesley medical center in Brisbane, Australia documented the case of a 61-year-old woman with mesothelioma who went into remission within months, and has stayed in remission for years. (You can find the full text of the publication, "Apparent Spontaneous unblemished Regression of a Multifocal Malignant Mesothelioma of the Pleura, here.)

Dr. Allen notes that he has treated over 600 mesothelioma patients and that there were multiple runs of the biopsy to make sure that the woman (1) had mesothelioma and (2) it went into remission without any medicine at all.

By no medicine at all, Dr. Allen writes that there was also no alternative medicine, no changes in diet, and no prayer--but it seems unlikely he could de facto list for those variables. The Australian patient had been in remission for five years when the paper was published in 2007.

And there are also people who have had mesothelioma who haven't stayed in remission, but who have lived a very long time. The Royal Brompton Hospital in London reports a mesothelioma patient who was in remission for six years, then had to have a particular tumor excised, and then lived an additional one six years, twelve total, and was still living at the time the paper was published. (You can read an abstract of that record here.)

Mesothelioma is a grave diagnosis, but it's not utterly hopeless. Don't count yourself out.

Mesothelioma pathology

Mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer, continues to remain a challenge for the medical fraternity. This form of cancer is primarily caused by exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma can be whether malignant or non-malignant in nature. Maybe the most leading concern in mesothelioma is the inability to diagnose it at an early stage, as most citizen exposed to asbestos normally remain unaware of it. Since practically all cases of mesothelioma can be attributed to exposure to asbestos, it is also known as 'asbestos cancer.'

Mesothelioma results when the mesothelium cells come to be abnormal and divide uncontrollably. If not detected at an early stage, the cancer may spread to other body parts. Malignant mesothelioma continues to remain the most critical of all, and curing the disease at this final stage is extremely challenging. Physicians use any techniques to settle mesothelioma, particularly industrialized imaging techniques. To settle the stage of mesothelioma doctors use any tested techniques such as the Butchart system, the Tnm system, or the most recent Brigham System. A definitive diagnosis, however, is still being practiced through techniques of fluid determination and tissue biopsy.

Mesothelioma

General physicians are not able to treat the disease because of their lack of any special training for the disease. At best, the normal physician can reason mesothelioma and refer the outpatient to a special group of doctors who are specifically trained in any areas of mesothelioma. Once in the care of the specialist, the outpatient is taken care of by the pulmonologist, the thoracic surgeon, the medical oncologist, the radiation oncologist, and pathologists and the respiratory therapist, in sync with the agreed line of treatment.

The oppressive process of mesothelioma determination is a difficult sense for patients and their near and dear ones. The long-drawn tests, endless consultations and frequent visits to hospitals add to the woes of the sufferer. There are any missions and charitable organizations that understand the plight of the mesothelioma patients and their family members, and offer their services in the form of psychological counseling and other services that seek to mitigate the pains to a large extent.

Benign Mesothelioma - What You Need to Know

Almost all mesotheliomas are malignant. In rare cases, however, mesothelioma is benign or non-cancerous. As a matter of fact, only 10% of mesothelioma cases are non-malignant. Benign Mesothelioma, also known as multicystic or fibrous mesothelioma, is described as localized mesothelioma. This is because it does not spread to the surrounding tissues; it is non-invasive by nature. The cause is not known and has nothing to do with asbestos exposure but it ordinarily institute in the lungs than in the heart and abdomen. Unlike malignant mesothelioma, it can be detected immediately because the patients demonstrate symptoms at an earlier time. Though not life threatening, its symptoms should be thought about as warning for the potential development into a malignant one.

Benign mesothelioma is diagnosed in the same manner as malignant mesothelioma. Your physician will tell first your occupational and curative history and conduct a unblemished physical examination. Men undergo a more thorough test because they are often diagnosed with the disease compared to women. Thereafter, you will need to undergo chest or abdomen x-ray. A Ct scan will likewise be important to see the cross-section of your body and an Mri to find the tumors in or nearby your lungs. These imaging tests allow your physician to conclude with exactness the location of tumor.  Biopsy is the last process of the examination. Your physician will get a tumor tissue sample and eye it to conclude either it is assuredly benign or malignant.

Mesothelioma

Benign mesothelioma is easier to treat. The most recommended and efficient medicine is mesothelioma surgical operation to remove the tumor which is the root of the pain and discomfort. If the tumor is located in your lungs, you have to undergo thoracotomy which involves the removal of a measure of the lungs. There will be no supplementary medicine like chemotherapy and radiation following the surgical operation because the tumor is only localized. However, there is a probability to institute complications like pleural effusion. It is a fluid build-up which pressures both lungs and heart. It can be treated by fitting a chest drain after the surgery.

Patients who underwent surgical medicine sense thriving recuperation. In fact 90% of them have no description of recurrence of tumors. However, the remaining 10% probability should not be disregarded. All the time reconsider the fact that benign mesothelioma may just be a forerunner of a more complex malignant type of mesothelioma. Continuous follow-up and regular check-up with your physician are still advised.

Mesothelioma Litigation

Records indicate mesothelioma has killed more than 43,000 Americans since 1979, distressing thousands of families. This disease is a form of cancer that affects the protective lining of most of the body's internal organs. It is caused by exposure to asbestos, a flexible, fibrous mineral ordinarily used in several industrial products.

Most citizen affected by this form of cancer are those who have direct exposure to the material, in the mines and in companies producing asbestos products. But this does not limit the scope of victims. Families of these workers are also exposed to the deadly mineral brought home by the workers straight through the clothing and skin.

Mesothelioma

Manufacturing companies producing asbestos products are aware of the perilous effects of asbestos, and yet they continually make these products, marketing them to the social without informing them about the health risks. In other words, they employed deception in order to profess the high behalf brought by their products.

If you or man dear to you is afflicted with this devastating disease, you have a right to seek reparation and claim recompense from liable companies by pursuing mesothelioma litigation.

Types of Mesothelioma Lawsuits

Mesothelioma lawsuits are categorized into two sections, and the first one is called a personal injury lawsuit. In this type of lawsuit, the man diagnosed with mesothelioma is living and is filing the lawsuit as a plaintiff in his own private capacity. The second is called a wrongful death lawsuit, where a man who has died as a result of the disease is represented by a spouse or a relative.

In the first category, time is the most prominent element. The attorney should be able to collect all the requisite data in a few sessions. One or two depositions from the plaintiff will be produced, and then the attorney handles all until the case begins trial.

In the second type of case, the most prominent part is looking persons who used to work with the deceased. They will be able to supply work history and goods exposure testimony the deceased would have in case, granted were he still living. Sometimes the scrutinize is required to give a deposition, after which the lawyer takes over until trial begins.

The Trial/Settlement
In most lawsuits, the cases are located before the justice building steps are ever reached. The company normally prefers offers a village or a pay-out.
But in cases where the company holds out or the plaintiff refuses settlement, the case proceeds to be heard in court. Here the jury is one of the most prominent elements that affect the case. When there are multiple defendants, dissimilar defendants will normally determine at dissimilar stages, with others holding out till the end.
The jury's rendering of the verdict does not mean the end of the legal process. The plaintiff or the defendant may still file for an appeal. Sometimes, cases are located during this stage.
The payment of Compensation
Settlement amounts vary from case to case, region to region and country to country. And out of this amount, the mesothelioma Lawyer takes the attorney's fees, normally 30 %-40% of the total. The remainder number then goes to the plaintiff.

Settlement payments in mesothelioma litigation ordinarily takes place months after the village is agreed to. Some take a combine of years before they receive the village payments, and still some don't get paid at all. This happens when the defendants file for bankruptcy.

If you think you have a claim in this area, what you need to do is to find a good mesothelioma Attorney in your place as soon as inherent because every state has a statute of limitations. If you do not act within the prescribed time duration for filing the case, you lose all chances for compensation.

Causes and Symptoms of Esophageal Mesothelioma Cancer

Esophageal mesothelioma cancer occurs in about 11,000 Americans per year. This accounts for less than 1% of all cancers. However, the incidence of esophageal cancer is increasing.

Cancer can develop in any part of the esophagus. It can spread to surrounding lymph nodes, the windpipe, and the large blood vessels in the chest, and other around organs. Rehabilitation for esophageal mesothelioma cancer depends on a estimate of factors, including its exact location, size, extent, and type of cancer cells. It's also prominent to think age and normal health to develop a Rehabilitation plan to fit each patient's needs.

Mesothelioma

Causes of Esophageal Mesothelioma Cancer

Esophageal mesothelioma cancer occurs in the larynx (voice box) and oropharynx that is the part of the throat at the back of the mouth. There is adequate to suggest that asbestos exposure is a cause of laryngeal cancer. There is insufficient evidence at this time to prove that asbestos is a cause of pharyngeal cancer.

Types of Esophageal Cancer

Squamous cell carcinomas occur in the cells that line the esophagus. Adenocarcinomas occur in the glandular tissue in the lower part of the esophagus and can spread to other parts of the body.

Symptoms of Esophageal Mesothelioma Cancer

Difficulty in swallowing, a feeling of fullness, pressure, or burning as food goes down the esophagus, a feeling of food getting stuck behind the breastbone.

Methods of Diagnosis

Esophagram (also called a barium swallow), is a series of x-rays of the esophagus. To prepare for this test, the outpatient drinks a barium solution. The barium, which shows up on x-rays, coats the inside of the esophagus for easier viewing. Esophagoscopy is a thin, flexible, lighted instrument (an endoscope) which is passed straight through the mouth and down the throat to the esophagus to view where the esophagus joins the stomach. Biopsy is a discharge of a small estimate of tissue straight through the endoscope to test for the proximity of cancer.

Staging

The nature of the tumor is primarily evaluated by a Ct scan of the chest. A Ct scan reveals if the tumor has travelled into the trachea (windpipe) and large blood vessels or lymph nodes.

Esophageal ultrasound is similar to esophagoscopy, but with the expanding of a built-in ultrasound devise.

Pet scanning can also be used to value esophageal cancer.

Treatment of Esophageal Mesothelioma Cancer

Treatment for esophageal cancer is contingent upon a estimate of factors, including its exact location, size, extent, and type of cancer cells. The physician also considers the patient's age and normal health to develop the best Rehabilitation plan.

Surgical resection (removal) of the tumor is the favorite treatment. Recently, surgeons have been using minimally invasive surgical techniques to remove esophageal cancers.

Chemotherapy and radiation are also frequently used, whether in conjunction with surgery or independently.

Several additional options are available, including laser treatment, tumor stenting, or photodynamic therapy. For most patients, their ability to eat can be restored satisfactorily using these procedures.

A multidisciplinary team: gastroenterologist, surgeon, oncologist (cancer specialist), radiation oncologist, nurse, dietitian, and social laborer join in the facilitation of outpatient Rehabilitation and care.

Mesothelioma diagnosis Facts

Unfortunately, individuals suffering from mesothelioma (a form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure) have a rather poor prognosis. There is currently no cure for mesothelioma, and once the disease is discovered, patients usually only have a short time to live. Without treatment, mesothelioma is fatal within four to eight months. New forms of medicine are all the time being advanced and tested, however, and there is evidence that the healthier a outpatient is at the time of diagnosis, the longer the life expectancy of the patient.

There are cases where patients receiving medicine have lived for as long as five or even ten years, but this is very rare. Even under treatment, most population survive less than one year, and often only a few months after receiving their mesothelioma diagnosis. agreeing to recent studies, nearby 10% of victims live at least three years after their diagnosis, and 5% reach five years.

Mesothelioma

One of the reasons that the prognosis is so bad is that there is such a long period of time between a person's exposure to asbestos and the amelioration of mesothelioma symptoms. It can take several decades before signs of mesothelioma begin to show up in a person. One study showed that when mesothelioma is caught and treated in its early stages, 50% of patients survived two years, and 20% reached five years, but unfortunately it is very difficult to gawk the disease early on. The fact that the symptoms of mesothelioma are so legitimately confused with other illnesses additional delays a exact mesothelioma prognosis in many cases.

Winning the compensation Worth Mesothelioma Lawsuit

Mesothelioma, the disease of mesothelium, is a painful one mingled with expensive treatment. Mesothelium is the exterior made nearby the heart, lungs and other important organ of human body. It protects the organs from injury when beating against the body wall. Commonly in case of involuntary muscles in human body, as found in heart, stomach, lungs etc, the mesothelium plays vital role. While respiration law the air is taken in, get purified in lungs and again the contaminated blood full of carbon-di-oxide is taken out. While the said purification process if there is any tiny or even puny particles are inhaled accidentally then those particles can not come out well from lungs and remain stuck in the mesothelium. If such dust particles get accumulated in large amount in lungs, then it causes many kind of lungs related or cardio-thoracic problems. In many cases it finally leads to cancer, known as mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Causes and stoppage

Mesothelioma cancer is a rapidly increasing threat to the people which has already killed thousands of Americans, and it continues to be diagnosed at an alarming rate. One of the main suspect for this rapid increase is because of the lack of awareness among people about this peculiar disease.

People often ask how to forestall mesothelioma. Although most Americans are not yet aware of the threat of mesothelioma and other asbestos-caused diseases, the house members and friends of mesothelioma victims are acutely involved about how to forestall mesothelioma from remarkable others. This is one of the major suspect for me to write this article.

Mesothelioma

Origin of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is closely related to the term Asbestos, a mineral used in many products that we encounter on a daily basis which is the main cause for this type of cancer. In the late 1970s and 1980s, the use of asbestos was cut back extensively by government regulation. But we must accept the truth that we all use Asbestos on day to day basis in our life. Places like School, Work places and in social building.

Asbestos At Work

If you have (or your loved one has) a job working with asbestos, it's a good idea to either look for other work or try to ensure that all inherent asbestos-related safety precautions are being followed. Some of the jobs that gift the highest risk of mesothelioma cancer are:

Asbestos manufacturing and removal, also known as asbestos abatement Insulation manufacturing, installation, and removal premise workers Miners building workers railroad workers Ship building and shipyard workers Gas mask manufacturers Automotive heal (brakes and clutches may include asbestos)
Asbestos At Home

It's inherent to safely take off asbestos from your home by yourself, older homes may well include materials with asbestos if you suspect that there is asbestos in your home. Be sure to check the sample of the building material tested in a laboratory. Look in a phone directory under "asbestos removal" for a place to start. Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Survival Rate

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of malignant mesothelioma. Many factors may be complex in determining the survival rate for this aggressive cancer; some are better understood than others. Estimates of average survival time range from one to two years; survival depends on fundamental factors such as the type and extent of spread of the mesothelioma. Only seven percent of people with this cancer survive to five years after diagnosis, but this outlook is gradually enhancing with some promising experimental treatments. Some people live well beyond five years from the time of diagnosis.

In general, younger age at diagnosis, absence of weight loss and little loss of lung function are linked with chances for increased survival. Stage I mesotheliomas, which have not spread to the lymph nodes or adjacent tissues and organs, also carry the best prognosis. The type of cell the cancer is comprised of can also sway survival. The epithelioid cell type has the best prognosis, the mixed or biphasic cell type the next best prognosis, and the sarcomatoid cell type the worst prognosis. The majority of malignant pleural mesotheliomas are of the epithelioid cell type.

Mesothelioma

Because this cancer takes so long to manifest, people are usually diagnosed at an older age and with more developed disease, potentially worsening the prognosis and the medicine options available. The more aggressive the treatment, the better the outcome may be, but in cases with cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, chemotherapy may be the only alternative. New drugs, such as the aggregate of Alimta with Platinol, have been shown to improve survival in malignant mesothelioma patients whose only choice is chemotherapy. A estimate of experimental treatments, such as immunotherapy and biotherapy, are currently being evaluated in clinical trials.
